I REALLY SHOULD WRITE SOMETHING

i really should write something.

But what else can i conjure that doesnt involve me squinting my eyes and frowning my forehead and squeezing my brain juice in order to produce some excess obligatory funny liner that makes me go "ahhh i've written a nice posts! #win" ?

i think because im constantly drowning myself in thoughts of the what to do's, when to do's and how to do's that when it comes to relaxing (or blogging) im just lazy to exert mental energy. Brain coma. A state of psyche surrender.

So therefore in no particular order. Random opinions.

- LIFE OF PI has to be one of the best books i've read in awhile. (Thanks to the housebunneigh housemate for igniting the "want-to-read" in me) started off rather slow but when u put ur heart to it and be optimistic that there's an ending that is worth the somewhat draggy chapters, you'd be pleasantly wowed.

- FIFTY SHADES OF GREY is NOT one of the books worthy of the aforementioned optimism.

- THE CABIN IN THE WOODS blew my mind. The casualness of the lab character buildups were genius to say the least. Fresh concept for a horror/sci-fi movie too. Now when my spirits are low and my inspiration absent, i remind myself of WWJWD. What Would Joss Whedon Do.

 - PARANORMAN was a pleasantly touching movie. If u dont already notice the walau-so-nice-can-die claynimation.

Also,

I sneaked off (or rather sneaked off and then proudly spammed Instagram like a gungho photographer wanna-be) to BALI for a week's worth of foreign frolicking.
It was nice.
Instagram pics came out great.
As long as Instagram pics came out great, nothing else matters.
Absolutely nothing.

Lets see what else.

Work has been slow-ish. I'm knee deep in writing a new vid for our KickaVlogs.
Cant say that inspiration has been particularly good to me though.
It's been a dry draggy season of sitting down at OldTown and staring stonely at the hazy Restoran Twin Joyous opposite the road beneath the overhead bridge and seeing the Bangla and China workers wait for buses.
Staring and shaking my leg mostly.
U know, when ur nervous as hell and u're stuck in mental blockage and u still know u need to get this shit done but nothing shits out.
Yeah those shakes.

WWJWD mana lu?!

Oh and
Happy (Belated) Raya!

ACADEMY AWARDS WATCH

Step aside Bieber, a new fever is in town.

The Oscars are currently inching closer and closer till you can almost smell Colin Firth winning Best Actor and Natalie Portman snagging Best Actress and Social Network grabbing Best Picture.

Been trying hard on watchin' em nominees before the show on the 27th (familiar date for a celebration, no? ;) ) so i can gloat and cheer and pull hair with all ye geeky hardcorers during the ceremony.

Black Swan was last night.
Made the girls squirm during the scenes when she started going cuckoo. (pun not intended)

Natalie Portman is so bloody skinny here.
Plays out to the character very well.

Watched The King's Speech 2 weeks ago. During CNY.
Yeah everyone was blasting their festivelybloodred dongdongchiang programs and there i was busy watching period movie drama about a stuttering anger-filled leader.
Rebel yo.

Colin Firth is amazing in this movie.

Next up:

The Kids are Alright.

127 Hours.

The Fighter.

Anyone got?

Social Network / Toy Story 3 / Inception was fortunately last year when they were on the big screen.

Am also trying to catch all the Best Animated Short Film Nominees

Already saw The Gruffalo which was damn cute and awesomely animated.
the textures and lightings were eyegasmic to behold.

Day & Night during Toy Story 3. Very refreshing way of execution.
had the opportunity to ask them about the process of making it sometime ago at the Pixar Toy Story3 Lecture Series last year.

Anyone got the rest?

BEST ANIMATED SHORT FILM
•Day & Night
•The Gruffalo
•Let's Pollute
•The Lost Thing
•Madagascar, A Journey Diary

(i cut and paste from Nicholas' blog. hehe. xiexie nicho!)

Oh and btw. Oscar day (US time) also marks the day i was bestowed life onto this earth. so whip out all ye belated xmas presents / belated CNY angpows / belated valentinesday gifts / festive charity cheques and direct them to yours truly cuz u just love me too much to not do this.

Much much much appreciated!

2010 REVISITED

Honestly..
i cant think of anything accomplished in 2010 that resembles anything along the lines of "proud" and "worthwhile" at this point.

I think from the beginning i had already set my sights on making 2010 a doomed year of recuperation and restoration.

Oversplurged in 2009 so naturally 2010 was the recharge year.

But the little little joys that creeped in where very much welcomed.

i mean

I worked alot i guess.
Handled more shoots than i usually did.

Played more songs.
Jammed some jams.

Had my share of faktapshit.

Experienced the French invasion.

The German white boi's departure: (not sure if this qualifies as a "joy".)

(ok fine it does! haha)

Spent time with my hordes of adoring fans.

but overall nothing as epic as Halfwayroundtheworld Euro trips or Halfwayupthesky mountain climbs.

ANYWAY...

2010 LOVES:

KICK ASS

TANGLED / RAPUNZEL

SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON

BURIED

THE SOCIAL NETWORK

WHIP IT (technically 2009 movie but only saw it in 2010)

ZOMBIELAND (also 2009 movie but bloody hell it dserves to be in this list!)

2010. Bah. Watever.
Faster come la 2011.

SCOTT PILGRIMISATION

SCOTT PILGRIM had so many LOL moments that flash by too quickly i thank god i have the downloaded pirated version that allows me the privilege of rewinding, pausing and playing at my own slowmo-tortoise pace.

and because weight has been a hot topic of discussion lately for me and every known female around me, every time i see that Julia Roberts movie poster around, i see THIS:

ANYWAY, because i have not done any form of self-indulgent movie critiquing in the past several (was it?) months, i will allow myself to indulge in some now.

SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD rocked my beat-em-up fetish socks to the bone.

i loved almost every scene.
Every fast-cut edit.
Every WTF random liner.
Every super canggified VS battle.
Music to my ears. Candy to my eyes. Orgasm to my soul.

It aint exactly deep but i thoroughly enjoyed it.

8.5/10 Evil Exes

HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS: PART 1

Nope.
Didn't really enjoy it.
Yawnsome.
Dobbie's death wasn't played to the tear-jerking emo state i was in when i was reading the book.

Draggy throughout most of the film.

Meh.

4/10 Avada Kedavras

THE SOCIAL NETWORK

Good movie.
Enjoyed it from start to finish aka did NOT doze off like i usually do.
Good script.

I think the movie works cuz there is an instant connection with the viewers already considering how facebook is the main subject of the movie.

Goodstuff.

7/10 Friend Requests.

LET ME IN

Not nearly as good as the original master piece but passable.
Not bad.
Pool scene at the end absolutely cannot beat the impact of the original movie.

6/10 Buckets of Fresh Blood

THE RUNTHROUGH REVIEWS

Movies caught by lil ol' me lately.

SHE'S OUT OF MY LEAGUE

Toilet/shave jokes were biggest LOL parts of the film.
cant say it was anything more than that.
Its a pity cuz there could've been some sort of a "MeanGirls" effect going on here.

MeanGirls effect - brainless bimbo/himbo humour with pinch of depth applicable to reality. and makes you like it. and watch it. repeatedly.

2.5/5 gunks of gore

ECLIPSE

Strictly for the ignorant lovesicks.
Yes i am a cynic. kinda.
or maybe i just don't get the cheesy "everything-i-do-is-for-u" liners.
Victoria died so uselessly quick.
Cannot tahan the diamond shattering when the Vamps die.

2.5/5 Ploughs of Blood.

COUPLES RETREAT

Its weird how i only found the sex position jokes during the yoga scene funny.
Everything else was pretty yawnsome.
yes. Perv i am.

2/5 flanks of freaks.

DESPICABLE ME

The only thing that amused me in this movie were the yellow Digimen minions.
They were the sole selling point of this film and without em high pitch cutesies running around throwing us all kinds of chaos, i would've found this movie boring.

Teaser really sucked. Thank goodness there was more to it than that fat kid falling into the pyramid balloon.

3/5 mixes of minions

INCEPTION

Ah. THE film on everyone's lips now.
The topic of everyone's movie conversation.
The icebreaking opener for film discussions.

Expectations pretty much killed this for me.
Yup.
The word around the street got to me and i had subconsciously/accidentally placed this movie skyhigh on my expectations list and of course when you expect it to be good - couldnt help it - it always ends up bad. Not BAD bad. Just mediocrely bad.

Dun get me wrong. I think it's an awesome film with a stellar cast and a kickass concept really. but i walked out of the cinema feeling......... expected. Like nothing surprising happened. Nothing that made me clinch my fist and demand more. Blame my eavesdropping curiosity and penchant to follow mass audience movie blabbers.

Loved the dream timezone slowmo bits at the end.
Oh well.
I give it 4/5 Layers of Dreams.

THE SORCERER'S APPRENTICE

Heard some bad reviews. Watched it. Ended up liking this movie.
So ya see. Expectations can make or break a movie experience.
I think i should start doing what thebrother does by steering clear of any known media coverage of movies i wanna watch from now on. Blocks out the foreign influences.

Was thoroughly impressed by the CGI!
Was immensely disappointed that cina contactlensed dragonwizard clawdude had so damn little screen time!
3.5/5 abookits and hodukens

SALT

Enjoyable. Fast paced. Believable acting. Mindlessjoyride. Poutedlips.
Relevantly good twist at the end.
What's not to like?
The sequel will be called Sugar.
or Pepper.
or Spice.
or Spicegirl.

3.5/5 Russian accents

There u go.
Woots.

Also, just finished season 2 of DAMAGES.

Have to say that it falters in comparison to the 1st season.
Slightly less kanchiong.

Still good.

But less of that edge-of-your-seat goodness.

ASS-KICKED

Warr Lao.

So frigginass busy until i was literally running from meetings to meetings yesterday.
it's a miracle i didnt end up with my routine headaches by the end of the day.

I need to vent.

Therefore movie reviews will be my outlet.

KICK-ASS, in my humble opinion, is the best movie i've seen this year.
Kid you i do not. (yes. better than Dragon-Training. and no i havent seen Shutter Island so i cant compare it to that yet. who knows. i might edit this post once i watch it. dunno yet.)

It's been awhile since i felt that edge-of-your-seat constant heart-racing kancheongness for a movie. Where you get so drawn in to the show that cold sweat drips and your back gets all hot and slightly sweaty as the heat kinda turns up from the hot action happening before your eyes.

This movie did it.

I saw the Hit-Girl trailer sometime ago and i just knew i HAD to catch it.
Awesome action. Dark Humour. Great special fx. And a violentbitchmuthafighter 11 year old kid who could whoop ma ass and turn me limbless inside out anytime. If that even means anything.

Without Hit-Girl the movie would never work la.

Sweeet. - 4.5/5

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON

Love love lovesit.
I'm an absolute sucker for dragons and riders in faraway lands during long-ago times.
Cliched storyline but really good storytelling.
Plus Toothless is so damn cute i cannot tahan.
I want a dragon too.

4/5

What else..........

Clash of the Titans was crap.
Wasted my 3D money.
Ended up watching most of the show with the 3D glasses on my forehead.

Look at the cute retro oldies poster of the original movie.

and the new ones.

Date Night was quite funny but ultimately pointless. I like Tina Fey though.
Unfortunately her limited acting capabilities are beginning to show. She might become one of those 1 dimensional actresses like Jennifer Aniston or Katherine Heigl who's always stuck in the same shell of characters no matter what movies they do.

Oh well.
I like her writing though.

NINE was boring.
some scenes were good.
But still made my eyelids heavy.

Had to skip through some songs to make the movie end faster.

Heh.

~

Blame Glee for putting Like A Virgin on my workplace music playlist now.
Stupid infectious musical remakes.
I never even liked the song before this.
Urgh.
