HOUSEBUNNEIGH SURPRISE. kinda.

OK. so. we threw the housebunneigh a sorta surprise birthday thing at home.
Only to screw everything up when the pivotal moment came for us to "perform" our bestowed duties.

Aih.

We had planned and rehearsed everything from "what to do if she were home" to "wat to do if she wasnt" and "how to react if she saw this" to "how to cover if she heard that" so i'd say we were pretty prepared. in our heads tat is.

Obviously, not prepared enough.

VIP came home.
We were caught offguard.
Ran. Slammed. Fumbled. Forgot. and ultimately friggin rushed our asses into position.

We did our thing.
VIP laughed. hicked. hissed. lol-ed.
And then started lecturing us on wat we did wrong that, upon rational thinking and inspection, made her suspect something was up.

Epic fail.
But as long as bday girl is happy, the world still smaylles smiles la.

Therefore from this valuable experience i am now compelled and obligated to compile a list of donts when throwing someone a surprise bash. May this help you (as well as remind yours truly) of the dangers that could potongstim even the most elaborately planned, most nicely decorated, most silently gathered bash. (actually it was only 4 people. but who cares right?! a party's a party and numbers dont matter!)

What NOT-TO-DO when attempting midnight helium
behlun bday surprise for housemate.

1) Leave foreign visitor's shoe in plain sight.
Safe to say tat en extra pair of female kickers in a household dominated by 2 males is indeed a dead giveaway for some eyebrow-raising ponderings hor?

models posed for presentation and dramatic purposes

2) Engage in casual conversations when time bomb is ticking
There are times for chats and there are times to shut tat pie hole for some xin li zun bei moments. If you are in shock, don expect to shock others. Keep quiet. Sit tight and wait for unsuspecting VIP to slide open the door in darkness before pouncing into action. Urgh. We lost focus. Dun follow us.

scramble zone covered from kitchen sink (left) to rooms (right).
as u can see. there's alot to trip over.

3) Kill time when awaiting VIP's arrival
Rehears. Plan. Train. Meditate. Pray. Anything.
Spend your time preparing for the mental and physical challenges tat could kick in any minute also better than treating time like it were nothing la! come on! use ur spare time to think of PLAN D & E & F and run over your steps again and again so u dun get it screwed when its your time to suit up and face the fire.
godamit. time is precious and if its not your room, dun treat it like it is.

us treating sy's room like it were ours.

absentee Peppermiin was there in non-corporeal form.

4) Forget to practice graceful door closing techniques upon panic
Loud slams and projected noises, no matter how unintentional they are, ultimately contribute to unsuspecting assailants spider senses to tingle and take away elements of heart attack inducing screams. Hide in swiftness, run in stillness and close friggin doors in silence. Remember remember.

dun bang so hard.

5) Leave camera out in the cold and away from commotion
Yeah just leap into the room and off the lights THEN realise u left your Kodak-moment capturer outside. obviously the realization of your fatal error comes too late as VIP's presence is already felt indoors. slap urself silly for wasting the opportunity to capture what could be a very memorable facebook photo.

6) Light pre-refrigerated candle in last minute pitch blackness
Always blow dry/fan/pre-heat your candle after extraction from cold icy wet places in fear of last minute inability to flame-on when crucially needed. Nothing speaks "happybitchday" more than a fireless candle. Ours wasnt exactly fireless but there was a worriful moment that it wouldnt catch on as VIP strutted in. Phew.

7) 'Phew 'at pre-refrigerated candle in last minute pitch blackness
DO NOT. i repeat. DO NOT allow over-excitement enthusiasmness overwhelm yourself when your candle FINALLY lights and your racing heart makes u exhale that 1 ounce of breathful relief that your plan might actually work. Never count your flames before they hatch and never blow out other people's candles for them. I dripped cold sweat when flames got extinguished by my minty-fresh breath in the darkness. Thankfully owhy had good hands with the lighter.

8) Cramp in bathroom with cake in hand
Never eat and shit in the same place.
erm. sorry sy. heh. nowhere else to hide.

May these helpful tips be your guide to bdaysurprise nirvana.

Happy Bunneighday LimShyngShorrehShorrehShorrehYing.

IMMA GONNA BUNCHO

It's been awhile since i actually had the initiative / motivation /energy to pick up a paintbrush, dip it in nostalgic BUNCHO poster colours and let it roll on paper.

So i was kinda on the fence about going this direction when a workproject required me to get my hands dirty and submerge myself in watercolours, sketches and handdrawn illustrations for a puny promo that would only go on air for 2 weeks. Heck that's only half a month. In fact, thats less than the amount of time set aside to complete this entire project. Yeah. Watevah.

But taking into consideration of how drawing was indeed the firm foundation that converted me into this unforgiving line of work, i figured wadahek just do la. For the fun of it. For the sheer thrill of holding a brush in my hand again. For the love of kickin' it ol'skoolstyle. And obviously NOT for the reasonably low price of xxxx per month that the slave-drivers are paying me with. Yeah. Whoopie. Yippee. etc etc.

on paper

on frogto.. i mean.. photoshop.

As you might've already guessed.

ASIA FILM WEEK

I attended the Asia Film Week seminars during the weekend.

Can't say i was jumping up&down about it because god knows it was the friggin weekend.
And the fact that none of the cabs i took actually knew WHERE the godforsaken location was.

I literally felt like it was the blind leading the blind when i sat at the back of the cab, safety belt strapped on, cluelessly nodding my head and going "ah. err. ok." as Mr.Cabby forwarded question after question if "this turning correct ah?" or if "this road can or not?"

I dont know damnit.
You're the bladi cab driver.

Then again i cant blame the poor fella.
It was held at ASWARA aka Akedemi Seni Budaya Warisan Kebangsaan translated as National Arts Culture and Heritage Academy.

Say wha... ? whe...?

i know. Mouthful isnt it?
Organise la somewhere that actually exists.
Wild goose chases in the early hours of the day rushing to attend a seminar on a weekend is no good for the young working adult's soul yo.
Damages. Damages i tell ya.

Anyhoots.

It was a pretty expensive seminar and i had the priviledge of attending free of charge.

AhBoon browsing tru our cheapo photostated 3-day guidebook

Friday was a total drag.
Same speaker from last year. Same info. Recycled jokes. Snorelax.

Saturday, on the other hand, was very very worthwhile.
Had the honours of watching CafeFX present and answer questions about their work. Works that included one of my favourite films of all time - Pan's Labyrinth.

They also did fx for SinCity, G-force, G.I.Joe, Nim's Island, KiteRunner and are currently working on the very-pleasing-to-the-eyes' Alice in Wonderland.

Yeah. Drop that jaw. now.

I was too paiseh to ask for photos.
So i snap from far.

See, even during breaktime, people are lining up to ask questions.
Jeff, the co-founder of CafeFX, was a damn nice guy when we went forward to enquire about AhBoon's tracking issues.

There were so many ppl continuously coming up to him that he had to excuse himself for a toilet break before running back to layan the rest of the quezzies.

I sense the stimulating aura of respect illuminating for him as well as a rather pungent stench of jealousy coming from my end.

Aih.

Sunday, was relevant but unfortunately doze-inducing too.
Good thing was that Peter Wunstorf threw us some outdoor action by dragging our asses into the open for some lighting and shadow tips.

unfortunate victim / model

Weekend.
Stolen.
With interest.

PLANTS HATE ZOMBIES

Hurrah and rejoice-rich for I have something else to do after i retreat to my 4 walls at home rather than catchup on Warehouse 13, Dexter, Glee, Desperate Housewives, Hung, Fringe, Heroes, Californication and the newly begun Stargate Universe.

青青河边草

It's a game that promotes love between the living and it teaches us to be good gardeners so that our future greens grow healthy and bloom with life for the good of our environment.

It also teaches us to appreciate life and organise strategic attack maneuvers that make waste to any obstacles that try to gnaw, chew, crawl, drag or claw it's way into our living quarters.

And perhaps the biggest lesson from this game - it teaches us that no matter how cute you are and how much your religion teaches you not to kill, zombies deserve absolutely no mercy.

Also, your brain deserves your utmost care and protection.

why does love always feel like a battlefield?

Here are just some of the organic protector plants who keep the zombehs from taking over your garden and from eating your precious brain:

the descriptions are killer cute.
killer.

But then again.... you cant really blame the poor walking dead as well.
They're just doing what their basic bodily instincts tell em to do - seek out and devour brains. They dun have a choice. Pity them.
Monsters VS Aliens Plants VS Zombies
will they ever live in peas peace?

Nah.

Decapitate em zombehs, you.
Decapitate em with cuteness.

GOTTA GET GET

So Arthur's Day went down last night @ Sunway Lagoon.

As predicted it was overly crowded, excruciatingly hot, annoyingly cramp, everyone was sweaty, performances were draggy...

...and utterly gile babi awesome when BEP took the stage.

God forbid i was already very very worried that it was going to be another PCD 3 years ago. Which it kinda was. Only difference was the fact tat BlackEyedPeas gave such a good performance i forgot about everything else when they came on.

Considering that this was supposedly an event with so many other artists performing and not a BEP Concert itself, i anticipated them to do maybe 3 songs max give or take.

u know la events like this.
Hype up 1 international artist.
Get us to fork out our precious moneys.
and in the end sure potong stim damn fast finish wan.

Manatau.

BEP performed not 3 or 4 songs...
but a whopping 10 songs weh. (Not including Fergie's and Will.i.am's solo sets.)
Dun praypray.

They brought down their own band, dancers and even stage props.
STAGE PROPS AH!
Who could forget the 2 HUGE inflatable robots standing tall on each side of the stage as BEP performed at Oprah's 24th Season Kickoff.

Unfortunately i never got the chance to execute the dance above which i have been killer rehearsing non stop prior to last night because of the various reasons stated at the beginning of this post. (read line 2 from top)

So they got it started with...err... Lets get it started.
Then went into some of the other songs in the THE E.N.D album.
Rock that Body
. Imma Be. Meet Me Halfway.

They also did Shut Up. Dont Phunk with my Heart.
Pump it. Where is the Love.

In the middle, Fergie came out with her 2 guitarists and did Big Girls Don't Cry.
Which was damn good la i think. She was busy thanking everyone for their support.
Very humble of her. Although i think they probably say it on default everywhere they go.

Then spotlight went to Will.i.Am who did his DJing thing for awhile.

Wasnt too into this cuz he took MJ and retro songs and some other ppl punya songs and tried to create a dance club sorta atmosphere - Which so wasnt working - Cuz it was damn cramp and i was sweating buckets and sticking elbow into this other bitch who was trying to steal my standing zone when it was already so hard to get a good view . How to dance u tell me?!

Ended with BoomBoomPow and I GottaFeeling.

I think Guinness gave them a whole hour to kill.
Which they literally did.

Before that it was the other kelefeh artists like Reshmonu and JoeFlizzow and MCHotDog and ManHand and dunnowhoelsecuzionlywannaseeBEP so i was really starting to feel restless from the draggy performances liao.

that's Taboo in white. In case ur wonderin.

I'm not exactly a big BEP fan (or even a fan to be honest. cuz i don't fancy ALL their songs and i don't own any of their albums. Plus Pump It and Let's Get it Started don't get on my playlist.) But they were so humble and engaging on stage tat i think i have a new respect for them la.

Despite all the fame-founding and Billboard-charttopping (I Gotta Feeling is still No.1 after 3123213 weeks) and Grammy-winning, they still wanna give face perform in these lil events in lil Msia with it's never-ending list of rules and restrictions.

GUINNESS must've pulled out all their guns to get them to give so much face weh.

See what i mean? Power guns.

Thanks Lapster for the free passes and an awesome awesome night.
Lets do it again some time soon. *wink wink*
